It is important that the way you sleep helps your body to get the best rest to help it to heal and regenerate. Awkward sleeping positions can affect your sleep quality and health in general. It can cause back and neck pain which can affect your posture. This may result in tiredness, muscle cramps and other health concerns.
Four out of ten people are not getting enough sleep, but a good sleeping position can help you get a better night’s sleep, which will help you feel more refreshed and ready to face the day ahead. Here are some things to consider helping you sleep better:
Old mattresses can cause or worsen back pain, so a good mattress will support your spine throughout the night. This can allow you to get more or a better quality of sleep. If your mattress is 10 years or more old, it may be a good time to consider a new one.

Sleeping on your back is best for your spine’s health as it distributes your weight evenly across your body and keeps your head, neck, and spine to be in a neutral position. It also allows your organs to rest in the proper place, which reduces pressure on them. Sometimes placing a pillow under your knees relaxes the muscles in your low back to help keep the natural curve of your spine.
Placing a pillow between your knees if you are a side sleeper keeps your knees about hip-width apart if you sleep on your side. This helps to keep your spine straighter and reduces the pressure on it.
Sleeping on your stomach puts a lot of pressure on your neck as you must turn it to one side and puts more strain on your low back. It is best to avoid this sleeping position.
A good pillow will help improve your sleep and support your neck. This can help with restless sleeping, neck pain and stiffness, and sometimes, headaches.
